Attila Bátorfy Guest Researcher at our lab

Starting from April 26, Attila Bátorfy will spend a month at our lab as visiting researcher. His research stay is funded by a scholarship of the Aktion Österreich-Ungarn.

CV: Attila Bátorfy is data journalist at the investigative journalism site Átlátszó.hu and research fellow at Central European University's Center for Media, Data and Society where he was member of the Hungarian research group of the Media Pluralism Monitor conducted by European University Institute's CMPF. He was editor of the largest news site on media and advertising in Hungary called Kreatív, where he covered corruption, political influence, state capture and ownership of the Hungarian media. His in-depth, data-based analysis on the state advertising and corruption in the Hungarian media from 2010 to 2014 was nominated for Gőbölyös Soma Award, the most prestigious investigative journalism award in Hungary. His recent projects around Hungarian media are State Advertising 2006-2016 with the ngo Mérték Media Monitor and a forthcoming scientific publication titled 'From state capture to controlled market: Viktor Orbán's and the government's media model after 2014' in Médiakutató. Attila is currently working on several media-related innovations and tools with the Átlátszó, the CEU, the Transparency International, the Center for Investigative Journalism and the Association of Hungarian Content Providers. He also teaches data journalism and media project management at Eötvös Loránd Science University and Center for Independent Journalism.
