Michalis Zotos is a PhD candidate investigating the development of the Internet in Europe. His project, supervised by Professor Katharine Sarikakis, is situated on the discipline of Internet Governance and explores primarily the logic/s behind the progress of Access Directives from the EU regulatory bodies. Michalis’s approach on institutional logic is interwoven with analysis of socio-economic transformations and political processes. In the core of his perspective is the idea that sociocultural analysis and updated political economy provide a whole new level of conceptualization to deal with aspects of the contemporary media industry.

Michalis did his Bachelors in Sociology at the Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences in Athens. He graduated with honours in the top 5% of the department and was granted a full scholarship for a Masters of Philosophy at the University of Cambridge. He earned a Masters in Modern Society and Global Transformation with honours. During the Masters did the research for his thesis, and worked, in the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation (ERT). Michalis has also worked for UNESCO and volunteered for the organization of L'Oréal-UNESCO International Awards for Women in Science.
