Majlinda Aliu, MA

Majlinda Aliu is a PhD candidate in the Department of Communication at the University of Vienna. Her PhD project examines the impact of crises in media governance across Europe, particularly focusing on the extension of European media regulations in Austria, Kosovo, and Switzerland.

Her subject explores the environment within which media governance is changing and how European media regulations are reaching Europe’s countries, exploring the impact of crises. The issue of governance lies beneath how decisions are made. These decisions can be state, self, co-regulated, supra, global, or individual. In the timelines selected for this research, the supra and national levels undertook actions related to media governance. The findings of her research project will facilitate the development of an analytical framework that examines the environment in which the media is evolving and becoming regularised. It also provides an overview of how the crises impact the media governance process. This doctoral project aims to contribute to European Media Policy literature and guide regulators when responding in similar situations.

Her academic work on changes in media regulation in Europe is supervised by Univ.-Prof. Dr. Katharine Sarikakis. The project was funded by the HERAS scholarship and implemented by OEAD.
