Dr. Oleksandra Gudkova

Former PhD Candidate at the Department of Communication

Oleksandra Gudkova completed her PhD on women's political activism in the public sphere, supervised by Professor Katharine Sarikakis. Specifically she is interested in Eastern European feminist activism. One of the central questions in her project is how women's activism is represented by printed media.

Oleksandra earned her Bachelor's and Master's degree at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Ukraine, in International Journalism and International Information Management, as well as English-Russian/Ukrainian interpreter, from the International relations Faculty. During her studies she was engaged in different kinds of research: She was member of the organizing committee of the international scientific conference "60 years of the Council of XXI Century"; she also took part in international scientific conferences, such as "Current Problems of International Relations " or "The Development of Border Areas and Their Participation in Integration Processes".

At the University of Vienna Oleksandra studied Communication Science at the Department of Communication. Her MA thesis, supervised by Professor Katharine Sarikakis, investigated the media coverage of Eastern European feminist activism.

Oleksandra also gained working experience as an intern at the Department of Public Information, News Monitoring Unit, at the United Nations in New York as well as at UNODC, Department of Public Information in Vienna.
