El Chris Natalia is a Ph.D. candidate at the Department of Communication Science, University of Vienna, under the supervision of Prof. Thomas A. Bauer and Prof. Katharine Sarikakis. Her research focuses on gender roles and power dynamics of Indonesian women in the context of dating apps. It explores how Indonesian women understand and deal with gender roles in a patriarchal culture through their use of dating apps. This research has theoretical, practical, and social significance, enhancing understanding of patriarchy and gender inequality in Indonesia’s cultural and digital contexts. It sheds light on gender dynamics in digital spaces and digital communication.

El is currently employed as a lecturer at the School of Communication, Atma Jaya Catholic University of Indonesia. As an academic, her research interests include intercultural communication, interpersonal communication, cultural studies, and digital media. She also delivers workshops and seminars for communities in Indonesia related to communication, especially public speaking, media literacy, intercultural and interpersonal communication, and organizational communication. She completed her bachelor’s degree in journalism at Universitas Padjadjaran, Indonesia in 2011 and her master’s degree in communication science at Universitas Indonesia in 2014. She is fluent in English and has basic knowledge of Korean. In addition, she has good communication skills, public speaking, teamwork, video production, and an interest in culture and music.
