Felipe Valenzuela, MA, MSc

Felipe Valenzuela is a PhD candidate at the University of Vienna, Department of Communication, researching the role of media governance and participatory culture in democratization politics in Chile. His dissertation, supervised by Univ.-Prof. Dr. Katharine Sarikakis, explores how non-political communities engage with political claims for social change through media and communication.

Originally from Chilean Patagonia, Felipe currently serves as a Political and Communications Adviser in the Chilean President's Cabinet while maintaining his position as Associate Professor at the Faculty of Communications, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. He previously directed the communications for Gabriel Boric's successful presidential campaign.

A journalist by training, Felipe holds an MSc in Global Media and Communications from the London School of Economics and Political Science and an MA in Global Communications from the University of Southern California. His research interests focus on participatory culture, political communication, and governance from below, examining how seemingly non-political communities can contribute to strengthening democratic processes.
